Nursery
Welcome to Butterflies Class!
Butterflies Nursery is a purpose built setting within the grounds of Midfield Primary School. We are very fortunate to have staff who are highly knowledgeable and passionate, bringing many years of experience, understanding and creativity to the nursery.
We have a team of five staff members to support all children in their learning and development in their first or second year of nursery.
Mrs Wilkinson is the Class Teacher supported by Professional Teaching Partners (PTP) Miss Stevens, Mrs Twinley and Mrs Gregory.

In our nursery we give equal importance to our indoor and outdoor learning environments, and children have free access to both areas throughout the sessions.
Here at Midfield we are very fortunate and have a wonderful outdoor space including a musical garden, trim trail, Celtic hut, edible garden, mud kitchen and access to our forest school area on a weekly basis. The children love investigating the different areas allowing them to enquire, grow and develop in a range of ways, gaining new skills.
In nursery we have a child-led approach to teaching in which we strongly believe is the best way for young children to learn and make outstanding progress. This method allows your child to choose what they want to do within the learning environments, where enthusiastic staff join them and support them in their pursuits, identifying all teachable moments, thereby allowing your child to make progress in very short spaces of time.
This requires staff to utilise their teaching skills 'in the moment' whilst your child's interest and motivation levels are high. All staff in our Nursery Class fully implement the 'key worker' approach to support each child and their family throughout their time in our setting.
With the successful implementation of both an enriched, rounded and balanced curriculum and a well-structured, safe, active and challenging learning environment, both indoors and outdoors, children will be able to develop the skills, knowledge and understanding that enables them to be successful learners.
