Nite Owls
We were very lucky to welcome a range of owls, large and small, into school. We met Chalky, the Snowy Owl, Noodles, the Scunda Scops Owl, Zippy and Caspar the Barn Owls, Oscar the Arhonic Eagle Owl, Arnie, the Little Owl and cheeky Gizmo, the Tawny Owl.
The assembly, repeated for the whole school to enjoy, linked to the Science curriculum from EYFS to Year 6 - from night and day and nocturnal animals to camouflage and adaption. It also proved to be an excellent stimulus for creative writing and our oracy discussion sessions.
In EYFS and Year 1, it linked really well to work on the books, Owl Babies and The Owl that was afraid of the dark.
Children were offered the opportunity to have their photos taken with the owls after the session.
The children were reminded about what we can each do to protect our environment and how to preserve and keep safe the habitat that we all live in.
